Doug served as the firm's managing partner from 1997 until 2002. He has since been practicing full-time in the firm's labor and employment section. Before joining Hanson Bridgett, he served as a field attorney with the NLRB and was chief labor counsel for Stanford University and Stanford Medical Center. He has extensive experience in labor negotiations, arbitrations, NLRB and PERB proceedings, employment litigation, EEO agency proceedings, policy development and strategic planning. He frequently advises clients on labor and employment issues in mergers and acquisitions. Doug has extensive trial and appellate experience. His recent work includes cases raising issues of claimed invasion of privacy, disability, gender and race discrimination, sexual and racial harassment, civil rights violations and retaliation.

Representative Work

Successfully defended public entity large public employer against union claims brought before PERB that its revised funding policy for its defined benefit plan must be negotiated with union that represented plan participants.

Successfully defended major Laboratory against claims that employee termination was for cause and was not in retaliation for alleged sexual harassment.

Successfully defended public entity against claims that employee was termination was for cause and was not motivated by race discrimination.
