Partner

John, a name partner in the firm, served as managing partner from 1980 to 1985 and again from 1988 to 1997. He specializes in civil, business, governmental and appellate litigation in state and federal courts. John has been lead trial counsel in matters involving complex business and commercial disputes, business torts, securities disputes, environmental and land use litigation, construction delay and defect claims, eminent domain, property damage, products liability, personal injury, administrative and governmental regulatory litigation and constitutional issues. He has also served as litigation avoidance and loss prevention advisor to major clients. John has served on the California State Bar Committee on the Administration of Justice and as vice president for San Francisco of the Federal Bar Association for the Northern District of California. 

John has been chief litigation counsel for the firm's major public agency clients for more than 30 years. These clients include the City of Millbrae, the Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District, the San Mateo County Transportation District, the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District, Coastside County Water District, the Bay Area Water Users Association and the San Joaquin Regional Rail Commission. His representation has covered the range from risk prevention counseling to jury trials.

John has also served as president of the San Francisco Performing Arts Library and Museum and as president of Lamplighters Music Theatre (formerly Opera West Foundation).
