Litigation and Dispute Resolution
Litigation and Dispute Resolution
San Francisco

Paul is a litigation specialist who represents both private and public sector clients. He represents clients in contract claims, real estate disputes, and corporate governance matters. Paul also represents public entities in civil tort cases, taxpayer lawsuits, and civil rights matters. Paul has successfully represented clients in both state and federal courts, as well as during alternative dispute proceedings.

Representative Work

Paul takes a balanced approach to his commercial litigation practice. He is a sharp legal advocate who is willing to litigate a matter through trial. But Paul is also mindful of litigation costs. In balancing these concerns, Paul brings a measured strategy to representing both large and small businesses against breach of contract, fraud, and unfair business practice claims. For example, Paul successfully mediated and settled numerous lost profit claims on behalf of small business owners against the parties responsible for the 2007 Cosco Busan oil spill that occurred in the San Francisco bay.

Paul also represents national, regional, and local shopping centers in lease disputes, including those relating to the non-payment of rent, tenant bankruptcies, and other defaults. In addition, he represents parties in disputes relating to the purchase or sale of residential and commercial properties.

Paul represents many government entities as well. He represents public entities in tort defense cases and he litigates matters concerning the alleged dangerous condition of public property, wrongful death, and other personal injury matters. He has represented public entities against taxpayer lawsuits relating to alleged misuse of funds. Further, he defends state and local entities in civil rights matters, including class actions relating to the delivery of programs to people paroled from state-run correctional facilities.

Paul contributes much of his time to community activities and pro bono work. Recently, he successfully argued an international adoption dispute before California’s First District Court of Appeal. Paul was also awarded the Pro Bono Advocate Award for his work representing local students during school expulsion hearings. He has also handled asylum matters, residential landlord-tenant disputes, and domestic violence matters. Notably, Paul recently secured a variance for a regional non-profit entity, which avoided the imposition of potentially costly civil penalties under a local ordinance.
