Bill specializes in complex business disputes, partnership and corporate dissolutions, real estate litigation, and trademark and copyright infringement litigation. Bill represents individuals, business clients, and public entities in state and federal court proceedings, binding and non-binding arbitration and mediation in matters ranging from breach of contract, fraud, statutory violations, business torts and inverse condemnation. He has also litigated environmental claims, bankruptcy adversary proceedings, partition, unlawful detainer and judgment enforcement proceedings.

Bill has tried more than 50 cases and handled several appeals. Bill serves as a judge pro tem for Santa Clara Superior Court and a judicial arbitrator for Alameda Superior Court.

Recovered millions in compensation for Fortune 500 company in jury trial against an energy company.

Two month jury trial representing real estate developer for breach of contract, negligence and fraud in connection with construction and sale of residential home.

Successful defense of Chief Executive Officer of Silicon Valley start-up company accused of fraud in connection with securing a company investment.

One week jury trial with plaintiff award for breach of contract by a material supplier against major contractor.

Eight day court trial against a municipality for inverse condemnation Trespass and Nuisance in connection with a sewer spill.

Eight day binding arbitration with sizeable claimant award for buyer clients in case involving misrepresentation in business purchase.

Successfully defended life insurance company in federal court trial involving rescission of life insurance policy due to misrepresentation in application.

Representative Appeals:

McKinzie v. Roemer (Alameda County Superior Court) Represented plaintiff purchaser of Oakland dental practice for breach of contract, breach of  implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing and fraud arising out of sale. Result: plaintiff's jury verdict and successful recovery of contractual attorney's fees, which was affirmed on appeal.

PAI Corporation v. Integrated Science Solutions, Inc. (USDC, Northern District of CA) Represented defendants in breach of fiduciary duty and theft of trade secrets case arising out of procurement process for services provided to NASA/Ames. Result: plaintiff's jury verdict, reversed by trial judge in post-verdict motions. Case settled while pending in Ninth Circuit Court of Appeal.

Burns v. City of Los Altos (Santa Clara Superior Court) Represented plaintiff homeowners in inverse condemnation action against City for sewer intrusion. Result: defense verdict; adverse appeal in Sixth Circuit.
