Government Relations

We don't believe in fighting city hall - we believe in putting the power of city hall to work for our clients.

Our government relations practice is comprised largely of attorneys drawn from the ranks of government. We understand the language and the pulse of government - and of politics. We know that the art of negotiation is the life blood of political decision-making. And we understand that litigation must be a credible but last resort in dealing with government officials.

We recognize and respect the integrity required of those who serve in government, and we never presume that past relationships alone are sufficient to obtain present results. Instead, we work tirelessly with our clients to achieve a result in which everyone - the client, the government, and the community -can take justifiable pride.

We help organizations navigate the confusing maze of government policy and convoluted regulations that frequently stand between businesses and their goals. Hanson Bridgett's public agency section has represented government agencies at all levels for more than forty years. We understand the dynamic of government agencies, we have earned their credence, and we have gained a diverse and deep knowledge of governmental law.

Beyond the legal aspects, we have great familiarity with community and environmental activists, and neighborhood and special interest groups that often hold sway over public policy decisions. We are unusually experienced in mobilizing community support for advocacy, a factor which has frequently meant success for our clients.

Our backgrounds allow us the possibility of open doors and open minds, but our experience in government and our creativity permits us to succeed. We have the expertise to assist clients with government relations in many arenas, including:

  • Advocacy & Legislation
  • Land Use
  • Regulatory Compliance & Enforcement Proceedings
  • Eminent Domain Proceedings
  • Indian Gaming & Tribal Sovereignty
  • Initiatives, Referenda, Election Law
  • Procurement & Contracting
