David S. Gehrig assists public agency clients such as transit districts, health care districts, water districts and cities with the full range of legal issues related to public works construction projects. He has worked on numerous large-scale infrastructure projects from the drafting of the contract specifications, through the bid process, to contract completion and claims resolution. He has considerable experience with contract award disputes, prevailing wage laws, subcontractor substitution issues, bidder pre-qualification, and alternative project delivery methods like design-build and integrated project delivery principles. He has also successfully resolved several stop notice lawsuits for public agency clients.
David also assists public agency clients with a wide variety of other legal issues, including Public Records Act compliance, record retention issues open meeting laws, Endangered Species Act compliance strategies, and drafting professional service agreements and communication site leases. Prior to joining Hanson Bridgett, David practiced public agency defense litigation where he worked in all phases of pre-trial litigation practice, and became familiar with many legal provisions unique to public agency clients such as immunities under the California Government Code, claim filing procedures, and liability under inverse condemnation, and other property damage causes of action.
