Former Chevron Energy Solutions Vice President and General Counsel Douglas A. Oglesby Joins Hanson Bridgett

San Francisco (July 25, 2007) — Hanson, Bridgett, Marcus, Vlahos & Rudy LLP is pleased to announce that Douglas A. Oglesby, former Vice President and General Counsel for Chevron Energy Solutions, a Chevron Corporation operating company, will join the firm effective August 1st. His addition expands the firm's energy and sustainable business practice. Mr. Oglesby will focus on energy transactional matters and counseling, including complex energy alliance agreements, energy services and management agreements, alternative power generation and energy infrastructure construction contracts, wholesale and retail power supply contracts and transmission arrangements, regulatory policy, and wholesale and retail electricity rates and tariffs. As General Counsel of Chevron Energy Solutions, Mr. Oglesby was actively involved in the development and implementation of energy efficiency, conservation, and power systems projects, with special emphasis on developing and constructing small electric generating plants using biofuels and other renewable resources.

Over the past 30 years, Mr. Oglesby garnered a high-level of expertise in energy and regulatory law in the electric power industry. His experience includes serving for 9 years as Chief Counsel for Pacific Gas and Electric Company's (PG&E) Electric Supply Business Unit. More recently, Mr. Oglesby served as Vice President and General Counsel of PG&E Energy Services, a position he retained after Chevron acquired the PG&E subsidiary in 2000. Mr. Oglesby was a founder of PG&E Energy Services' predecessor Vantus Energy Corporation, a subsidiary of PG&E Company, and became Vantus' first General Counsel in 1996.

As Chief Counsel at PG&E, Mr. Oglesby was the principal legal advisor to the Electric Supply Business Unit and to PG&E's senior management on a broad array of issues that included electric supply matters, resource planning, industry structure and restructuring, permitting of transmission and power plant facilities (including hydroelectric, geothermal and central station fossil fueled power plants), utility interchange, transmission and non-utility power transactions and associated pricing, rates and tariffs issues. He also led the legal team in defending the operating license for PG&E's Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant before the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission and in various Federal Courts, including the United States Supreme Court. In addition, he has managed and participated in numerous proceedings before the California Public Utility Commission, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and the California Energy Commission.

"I am thrilled to be joining Hanson Bridgett's team of exceptional attorneys," said Mr. Oglesby. "This is a great opportunity for me to share my knowledge of the industry with our clients, while continuing to influence public policy by working with government agencies."

Jonathan Storper, Chairman of the firm's Corporate and Sustainable Business Practice Group, who worked as outside counsel with Mr. Oglesby during his tenure at PG&E Energy Services, commented that "Doug's expertise in the energy arena significantly adds to and compliments our existing business practice, particularly at a time when our work in the renewable energy field has been rapidly expanding. With Doug's addition, Hanson will be better able to assist companies, industry associations, utilities, and government agencies with a broad array of energy related services and policy initiatives."

"Bringing Doug to the team reaffirms our commitment to provide our clients, both public and private, with top notch attorneys who are experts in areas of law that are significant and relevant," stated Joan Cassman, who heads the Government Group practice and also worked with Mr. Oglesby on an alternative energy co-generation project involving her client, the City of Millbrae. "We are all looking forward to working with him."

Prior to his tenure with PG&E Energy Services, Mr. Oglesby was a partner at the McKenna & Cuneo law firm, where he represented large energy consumers, domestic and international independent power developers, marketers, and utilities on a wide range of energy and regulatory matters.

Mr. Oglesby has an extensive record of practicing before and providing expert testimony to energy-related government agencies including the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the California Public Utilities Commission, the California Energy Commission, and other state and federal agencies on a wide range of energy-related issues. He actively participated in the development of the 1992 National Energy Policy Act, helping to shape the provisions relating to independent power development and electric transmission.

Mr. Oglesby obtained his law degree from Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California, Berkeley, where he graduated third in his class and was selected for the national legal honorary Order of the Coif. While at Boalt Hall, he also served as Article Editor of the California Law Review. Prior to law school, he was a line officer in the United States Navy and in the Navy's Judge Advocate General's Corps after law school.
