Hanson Bridget Attorney Mary McEachron Honored with the "Leaders of the North Bay Award". Distinguished Attorney Recognized for Work with Buck Institute for Age Research.
San Francisco (September 19, 2007) — The North Bay Leadership Council announced this week its selection for the Leaders of the North Bay Award. Among the five persons selected is Mary McEachron, Of Counsel with Hanson Bridgett LLP, one of the oldest and most respected law firms in San Francisco. The winners will be honored Oct. 19 at a luncheon featuring Leon Panetta, former chief of staff to President Bill Clinton.
McEachron was chosen for the Caught in the Act of Leadership category for her role in establishing the Buck Institute for Age Research, which is dedicated to extending health in age through discovering preventions and cures for such debilitating age-related diseases as Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and Huntington disease. It remains the nation's only free-standing independent institute dedicated exclusively to age research.
She is credited with securing the permits for and financing to build the Institute and, as its advocate, used her Harvard Law education for over a decade to lobby for acknowledgement for its need and legitimacy.
Mary K. McEachron's practice focuses primarily on land use and nonprofit law. Before joining Hanson Bridgett, Mary was the founding chief executive officer and general counsel of the Buck Institute for Age Research, where she gained extensive experience in corporate finance and development, construction, policy development, strategic planning, community organizing and electoral politics. She successfully represented the executor of Mrs. Buck's estate as part of a multi-firm defense team representing various (and sometimes competing) interests during the Buck Trust litigation, a trial which became known as the "Superbowl of Probate."
