Howard Ashcraft, Jr. Receives AIACC President's Award for Outstanding Service on the Integrated Project Delivery Definitions Task Group, and is Given Title of Honorary Member of AIACC
San Francisco (December 5, 2007) — Hanson Bridgett partner Howard Ashcraft, Jr. has received the President's award from the American Institute of Architects, California Council, for his outstanding service on the Integrated Project Delivery Definitions Task Group. Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) is a project delivery approach that integrates people, systems, business structures and practices into a process that collaboratively reduces waste and optimizes efficiency through all phases of design, fabrication and construction. In addition, Howard was also given the title of Honorary Member of AIACC, one of the highest awards AIACC gives to non-architects. "It is an honor to receive these awards and an even greater honor to be able to contribute to this effort. IPD is key to improving design and construction and a very important step toward a more sustainable future," stated Howard Ashcraft.
Howard has specialized in construction law since 1979, representing designers, owners and contractors in project formation, professional practice matters and construction disputes. He is actively involved in developing new approaches to project delivery that will avoid many of the issues he has seen arise in his litigation practice. Howard is currently working with the Congressionally chartered National Institute of Building Sciences to develop the National Building Information Modeling Standard and currently heads their legal and risk sub-group. Building Information Modeling is the use of object oriented, intelligent databases that not only can use 3D design tools to characterize existing architectural and engineering design, but can be used to explore and manage the construction process, energy optimization, sustainable construction, cost and facility management.
"Howard has invested a significant amount of time in learning and contributing to these new cutting-edge delivery systems and is clearly a leader in this field. We are very proud of Howard's achievement in this area," said Andrew Giacomini, Hanson Bridgett Managing Partner.
