Former Congressman Bosco to join Hanson Bridgett
San Francisco (January 2, 2008) — Former North Bay Congressman Douglas H. Bosco, whose legislative accomplishments include many State and Federal environmental measures, will join San Francisco-based law firm Hanson Bridgett beginning January 2. Bosco brings to Hanson Bridgett 30 years of experience as a U.S. Congressman, State legislator and attorney. His background in land use, transportation and environmental policy will bring significant depth to the Firm's Public Policy Group. Bosco will also bring with him some of California's largest landowners and insurers as clients.
"This may be the perfect marriage of attorney and law firm," said Andrew Giacomini, managing partner of the Firm. "Hanson Bridgett has long focused on representing clients and issues that have a positive impact on public policy, the community and the environment. Doug Bosco embodies this firm's ideals and mission, and we are eager to welcome him in the New Year."
That mission attracted Bosco. "Hanson Bridgett is a well respected firm that is large enough to serve a breadth of public policy issues, yet small enough to be very attentive to its clients and the communities in which they serve," Bosco said. "I like the idea of working with highly competent, highly motivated people who benefit public policy in my community, and that describes Hanson Bridgett attorneys."
Indeed, Hanson Bridgett appears to have become the law firm of choice for several highly-respected retired legislators who have demonstrated their commitment to effective and responsible public policy. Often, these legislative alumni helped write laws they now represent as attorneys for Hanson Bridgett. Retired State Senator Jackie Speier currently practices at Hanson Bridgett, and Darrell Steinberg practiced with the firm between his services as a State Assemblyman and now, State Senator. Gary Giacomini, senior partner in the Firm's Marin County office, was a longtime member of the Marin County Board of Supervisors and State Coastal Commission and has remained active in area public policy.
"This is an absolutely perfect union," said Gary Giacomini. "Doug Bosco is widely respected in both the legal and political communities, and his background will be a great benefit to Hanson Bridgett's work representing clients who seek help in the public policy arena. For me, this is a very exciting hire and I am truly looking forward to Doug Bosco joining the firm."
Bosco served in the California Legislature from 1978-1982, and United States Congress from 1982-1990. Over those years, he worked on a wide range of environmental public policy, including the California Wilderness Act of 1984, the California Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, the Smith River National Recreation Area Act, the Klamath-Trinity Rivers Restoration Act, the California Renewable Resources Act, and other environmentally-oriented issues.
Bosco graduated from Willamette University in Salem, OR, and earned his law degree from Willamette School of Law. Prior to his election to the California Legislature, he was Director of the Marin County Human Affairs Department and Executive Director of the Marin County Housing Authority.
He resides in Santa Rosa with his wife, retired Superior Court Judge Gayle Guynup, and his children, John and Cassie.
