Hanson Bridgett Welcomes David Alexander

Former Port of Oakland General Counsel will help grow firm's transportation and logistics practice

Hanson Bridgett LLP is pleased to welcome David Alexander as a partner in the firm’s San Francisco office. Formerly General Counsel to the Port of Oakland, David will focus his practice primarily on transportation and logistics, as well as related environmental, labor, finance and infrastructure matters impacting the users, providers and facilitators of intermodal services.

As GC for the nation’s fifth largest seaport and one of the busiest airports in the U.S., David won the 2009 “Deal of the Year” from the San Francisco Business Times for the $300M Public/Private/Partnership terminal lease transaction; led the team which negotiated the transfer of the Oakland Naval and Army bases to the Port of Oakland; and drafted and negotiated an innovative and widely imitated labor stabilization agreement with the building trades which prevented work stoppages and saved the Port over $1M per year. David also resolved a 30-year litigation between Port of Oakland and Alameda in only 15 months, thereby enabling terminal expansion which generated over $15 million in annual revenues to the Port.

“David’s 15 years of experience as general counsel for the Port of Oakland will bring tremendous value to our well-recognized transportation and logistics practice,” said Andrew Giacomini, Hanson Bridgett Managing Partner. “He is a perfect complement to our domestic and international reputation in the industry.”
David has a J.D. and a B.A. in Sociology from U.C. Berkeley. Previously, David also co-founded and ran the largest minority-owned law firm in the United States from 1979 – 1991, Alexander, Millner, McGee.

“David’s proven track record of successfully running the Port of Oakland will be key to helping to enhance our profile in transportation and logistics,” said Christina Nugent, head of the firm’s Transportation and Logistics Practice Group.
