Hanson Bridgett Promotes Four Attorneys

Hanson Bridgett LLP is pleased to announce four attorney promotions effective January 1, 2013. The firm promoted three to partner and one to senior counsel.

Anne Hydorn is a partner in the Employee Benefits Section and advises private and public employers on a full-range of benefits matters. She counsels both large and small entities regarding on-going administration and compliance issues related to ERISA, tax compliance, compensation and withholding issues, plan amendments, internal procedures, qualification of domestic relations orders and determination letter applications. Her experience involves working with both defined benefit and defined contribution retirement plans, including plans under 401(k) and 457(b) of the Internal Revenue Code. Anne's health and welfare work includes extensive advice on various health plan issues, the design and operation of cafeteria plans and health care reimbursement arrangements, health care reform compliance, and COBRA.

Before joining the firm, Anne was the director of human resources for a private corporation. During her tenure there, she gained extensive experience with retirement plans, welfare benefits, labor relations and payroll. She graduated cum laude from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 2003.

Annette Mathai-Jackson is a partner in the Real Estate Section. Annette handles real estate acquisitions and dispositions, ground leases, and financing, development, leasing, and management matters. She has represented private developers in project development and construction financing, public agencies in the disposition of railroad rights-of-way and nonprofit borrowers in public finance bond transactions. Annette represents landlords and tenants in both the shopping center and office contexts. She has extensive experience assisting senior care clients in real estate acquisition, financing and disposition and has represented borrowers and lenders in senior care financing. She is particularly well versed in HUD loan assumptions and refinancing. Annette counsels non-profit and other clients on non-profit and general corporate governance. She is a LEED® Accredited Professional.

Annette serves as a member of the firm’s Recruiting Committee and is active in professional associations, co-chairing the Judiciary Appointments Committee of the Asian American Bar Association. She received her J.D. from Stanford Law School in 2002.

Steven Miller is a partner in the Public Agency Section and assists local government agencies, in particular commuter rail operators and transit districts, with a wide variety of legal issues. His particular areas of expertise include all issues specific to commuter rail, public contracts and procurements, regulatory and intergovernmental agreements, constitutional issues, election law and government ethics.

Beyond the practice of law, Steven is also an accomplished musician. He is a Grammy-award winning violinist and served for many years on the faculty of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He has released more than 20 CDs and has appeared on both NPR and PBS. In addition to his classical performances, Steven can be heard on soundtracks ranging from Safeway commercials to Elmo in Grouchland. Steven graduated magna cum laude from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 2004.

Christine Hiler is Senior Counsel in the Insurance Recovery Section. Christine represents policyholders in connection with coverage disputes under general liability, directors and officers liability, employment practices liability, general property, and other policies. Her experience ranges from providing coverage advice, to participating in federal and state litigation, as well as alternative dispute proceedings. Christine has successfully litigated insurance coverage and bad faith claims to recover what is due to her clients. Christine also has experience litigating business disputes among owners, and officers and directors of companies, and representing public agencies in tort actions, including dangerous condition/design immunity matters.

Christine is a member of the firm's Associate Committee. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 2006.
