Jahmal Davis Named an LCLD Fellow for 2014

Leadership Council on Legal Diversity program builds leadership skills and relationships

March 3, 2014 (SAN FRANCISCO, CA) — Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) member Hanson Bridgett LLP is proud to announce that Partner Jahmal T. Davis has been selected for the 2014 LCLD Fellows program, a national organization made up of the legal profession’s top general counsel and managing partners. Hanson Bridgett has been a member of LCLD since 2011. Past Hanson Bridgett Fellows include John Cu, Mohammad Walizadeh and Anne Hydorn.

"Hanson Bridgett continues to focus on how to increase diversity in the legal profession. Our participation in LCLD is just one of many initiatives we focus on each year to help move the needle. We are proud to have been a part of LCLD from the beginning," said John Cu, partner and chair of the firm's Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

Jahmal Davis joins a class of more than 170 attorneys from around the country who have been selected as LCLD Fellows for 2014—the largest class since the program's inception.

"I am honored to join such an esteemed group to continue Hanson Bridgett's involvement in LCLD and commitment to diversity in the legal profession," said Jahmal Davis, partner in the firm's labor and employment section.

Launched in 2011, the LCLD Fellows program is an ambitious, highly structured initiative built to increase diversity at the leadership levels of the nation’s law firms and corporate legal departments. Over the course of the year-long program, participants will be challenged to improve their professional brand, build relationships that enhance professional development, participate in corporate learning experiences, and sharpen stewardship and leadership skills.

“Our Fellows program is a unique learning experience designed to empower a new generation of lawyers,” said Brad Smith, LCLD Chair and Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Microsoft Corporation. “These talented individuals have been singled out for leadership by their organizations, and represent a broad spectrum of backgrounds that are as diverse as the country they serve.”

With 215 members, LCLD is a national organization made up of the general counsel and managing partners of the leading corporations and law firms in the country. The Fellows initiative is one of several launched by LCLD since the organization’s founding in 2009. Other programs include a national mentoring initiative serving more than 2,000 mentors and mentees, a 1L Scholars program involving more than 200 first-year law students, and special programming for members through CLE presentations and other platforms.

“We’re lucky to have an extraordinarily focused and committed membership,” said Robert Grey, Executive Director of LCLD. “All of us are eager for results and will persist until we see real changes in the makeup of the leadership of the profession.”
