Hanson Bridgett Attorney Named to IRS' ACT Advisory Committee

June 1, 2015 (SAN FRANCISCO, CA) — Hanson Bridgett LLP is pleased to announce that Judy Boyette has been named as one of the members of the IRS' Advisory Committee on Tax Exempt and Government Entities (ACT) in the employee retirement plans area.  ACT includes external stakeholders and representatives who deal with employee retirement plans; tax-exempt organizations; tax-exempt bonds; and federal, state, local and Indian tribal governments. Members are appointed by the Secretary of the Treasury and serve two-year terms advising the IRS on operational policy and procedural improvements.

Judy Boyette, a partner in the firm's San Francisco office, has advised employers and employee benefit plans on all aspects of compensation and benefits including tax, regulatory, fiduciary responsibility, financing, and organizational integrity issues for more than 25 years. Judy has unique experience as both a lawyer and an administrator with hands-on experience running large, complex employee benefit programs. In her former role as associate vice president of human resources for the entire University of California system, she was directly responsible for all human resources issues, including managing a $40 billion pension system covering more than 100,000 members, three large defined contribution plans, and the third largest health plan in California.

Hanson Bridgett's Employee Benefits Group of seven full-time attorneys handles all types of qualified retirement plans (private sector and governmental), employee benefits issues that arise in business transactions, executive and equity compensation issues, fiduciary responsibility and welfare plan issues. The Employee Benefits Group advises clients on the laws governing retirement and welfare benefits and executive compensation, including ERISA, tax, labor, securities, and the Affordable Care Act. The Group has experience with all aspects of the design and administration of retirement plans (including 401(a),401(k)s, ESOPs,  403(b), and 457 plans), executive compensation, cafeteria and health reimbursement plans, health benefit plans (including cost containment issues and health care reform compliance), employment agreements, early retirement incentive programs, change-in-control counseling, and the legal aspects of investment of plan assets.
