Hanson Bridgett Counsel Frank J. DeMarco Honored as Recipient of James B. Lindholm, Jr. Legacy Award (June 2, 2009)
Hanson Bridgett Counsel Frank J. DeMarco was honored on April 16, 2009 as the recipient of the James B. Lindholm, Jr. Legacy Award. The California County Counsel Association presents this award to attorneys whom it feels have made an outstanding contribution to the Association and to the public practice of law in California.
The prestigious award was created in memory of the long time San Luis Obispo County Counsel, James Lindholm. The recipient is selected by the Board of Directors of the California County Counsel Association. It is not awarded annually, rather only when the Board deems that it is warranted.
Mr. DeMarco was the longest serving County Counsel in California's history, having held the position from 1973 until his retirement in November, 2008. While holding the position of County Counsel, Mr. DeMarco made many significant contributions to the public practice of law in California, some of which are highlighted here. Mr. DeMarco was instrumental in the development of the present form of CSAC-Excess Insurance Authority Self-Insurance Program, which has been important in providing California public entity risk liability protection. He also authored the Association's strategic plan, which guides the long-range goals of the Association. In addition, he started and chaired the Northern California County Counsel Group, which has served as a forum for the sharing of ideas and approaches to problem solving at lower costs.
