Kate's practice uniquely fits in both the litigation and transactional aspects of healthcare business. Her litigation clients have included health plans, hospital systems, outpatient surgery centers, mental health and substance use disorder treatment providers, skilled nursing and residential care communities, and provider groups. Kate's litigation and trial experience includes Federal and California False Claims Act matters and California Insurance Fraud Prevention Act litigation, as well as insurance reimbursement issues, including pre- and post-payment audits, offsetting, and recoupment practices.
Kate began her professional career as a Registered Nurse in the medical-surgical and oncology units and also served as a Charge Nurse of a 60-bed unit. Throughout her tenure as an attorney, Kate’s real world experience has translated to valuable strategic insights for her for her healthcare clients in negotiating transactions and providing regulatory advice. Kate also works with entrepreneurial clients in setting up cutting edge healthcare practices. Kate's transactional and regulatory projects have included dual anesthesia / pain practices, ambulatory infusion practices, mobile health provider groups, Medi-Cal community supports programs, and many more.
Kate routinely authors articles and speaks in academic and conference settings on the topics of anesthesia, nursing, billing and reimbursement, and fraud / abuse.
Kate is a Partner in the firm's Health Care practice and is based in Los Angeles. Kate graduated with her B.S.N., magna cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania and received her J.D., cum laude, from Pepperdine University School of Law.
