In the wake of recent corporate scandals and in the midst of an ongoing litigation and liability insurance crisis, it can be difficult for AAHSA members to attract and retain talented trustees. Potential trustees may be dissuaded from serving on boards of organizations if they believe that their own judgment may be challenged or that their own assets may be at risk. Fortunately, most states and the federal government have enacted laws to protect volunteer trustees of nonprofit organizations from liability for their actions as trustees.
