One on One Supervision

From time to time, RCFE providers are confronted with residents who present a substantial and immediate threat to their own health and safety or that of others. In many if not most such instances, a provider can work with family members to effect an immediate transfer to an appropriate care setting. When the family is uncooperative, providers may be able to convince the police to place the resident on a 72-hour psychiatric hold in accordance with Welfare and Institutions Code §5150. However, it has been our experience that unless the police observe extreme behavior first-hand, they are disinclined to .5150. an RCFE resident.
