Technological innovations can have an impact on assisted living operations. Several assisted living providers have recently reported incidents in which a family member used a cell phone camera to take photographs of unrelated residents who had not given permission to be photographed. In one such incident, a photograph depicted a dementia resident in a state of undress, which the "photographer" assumed was the result of neglect. This assumption was incorrect. More significantly, the daughter of the photographed resident was livid that her mother, a modest person, had been photographed by a stranger in such an undignified state, and the photog-raph had been circulated.
