P3 Case Study: Petco Park

The project was the construction of a new downtown baseball stadium and redevelopment of surrounding urban properties.

Under the initial deal, the City’s contribution was capped at $225 million, the RDA/CCDC’s at $50 million and the Padres/Private Investment at $115 million, with an additional $21 million to be raised from other public sources. The Padres were to be responsible for any cost overruns on the construction of the stadium, while the City/RDA/CCDC were responsible for land acquisition.
