Benefits of Model-based Process Integration
This paper argues that an integration approach is the most promising strategy to achieve high-performance facilities. It assesses today’s prevalent practice of decomposing a project into manageable parts in light of the goal of every facility owner to build a high-performance facility and defines a high-performance facility as a facility that enables its users to create maximum value. It pays particular attention to four integration needs: (1) user value definition and design, (2) validating design against the defined user value, (3) incorporating construction knowledge into design, and (4) incorporating facility operations knowledge into design. Several key existing and emerging methods that support these four integration opportunities are described.
