Upcoming Hanson Bridgett Forums:
June 4—Cleantech Investing. Clean technology is likely to be one of the few sectors that will see an increase in venture capital investment this year due to support from President Barack Obama's administration, the stimulus package and increases in federal funding for cleantech initiatives. Venture investment reached a record $8.4 billion in 2008 despite the credit crisis and broadening recession. Our second annual Cleantech Investing forum will feature executives from the leading-edge firms, exploring the latest developments and emerging policies that will impact the industry. Featured speakers include Ira Ehrenpreis, Partner, Technology Partners; Anup Jacob, Partner, Virgin Green Fund; and Rodrigo Prudencio, Partner, Nth Power. The panel will be moderated by Jonathan Storper, Group Chair of the Sustainable Business practice group, and the Corporate, Securities and Tax Law practice group at Hanson Bridgett LLP. Attention Government Entities: Economic Stimulus Package Update

The Department of Energy recently announced plans to make available $3.2 billion in Federal grants to fund projects that will reduce fossil fuel emissions and total energy use, and improve energy efficiency. The funds will be available to states, cities, and other units of local governments as well as Native American tribes.

The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program, which will be administered by the Department of Energy Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), designates over $400 million of Block Grant funds to California. It is intended to fund energy audits and energy efficiency retrofits in residential and commercial buildings. It provides funding for, among other things, energy audits and energy efficiency improvements and conservation measures, the implementation of alternative energy projects, cogeneration, energy storage systems, district heating and cooling systems and other energy programs.

Presidio's NEW Master's of Public Administration in Sustainable Management

Presidio School of Management has launched a unique Master's of Public Administration (MPA) in Sustainable Management, in response to the growing need for professionals who can sustainably lead public, civic and nonprofit institutions.  The first cohort of MPA students will begin classes in fall 2009.  Presidio, established in 2003, offers graduate programs in sustainable management, including an MBA and Executive program.  The new two-year, full-time MPA, is modeled after the successful MBA, which integrates sustainability, leadership, and systems-thinking into every aspect of the curriculum.  Presidio's approach to integration is particularly relevant to the MPA degree, given public administrators' interconnected requirements to manage all resources more effectively and more equitably. For more information, click here.
