Founded in 1958, Hanson Bridgett LLP is a multidisciplinary AmLaw 200 law firm with more than 190 attorneys throughout California. Clients range from individuals to multinational Fortune 500 corporations. Hanson Bridgett LLP is a certified B Corp and socially responsible member of our communities. The firm is driven by a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; charitable giving; pro bono legal work; and hands-on client service.

Our diverse client list includes large national and global companies as well as many governmental entities, regional businesses and individuals. While our offices are located throughout California, our attorneys frequently work on matters that cross domestic and international borders. To ensure our clients receive flawless service and top notch legal counsel wherever they may be located, we have forged alliances with firms in national and international legal networks. As members, we can provide our clients with legal expertise on the ground across the US and worldwide.

Hanson Bridgett actively recruits talented and driven law students who share our firm's commitment to diversity, charitable giving, pro bono legal work and hands-on client service. Our firm's main recruiting source for entry-level attorneys is our summer associate program.

We conduct 2L interviews during the fall recruiting season to fill between 4 to 5 summer associate positions. In addition to San Francisco, we may host summer associates in Los Angeles. We also hire a 1L LCLD Scholar each spring and our scholar participates in our summer program alongside our 2Ls. We purposefully keep our summer program small to maintain a cooperative and supportive environment consistent with our firm’s culture. A relatively small summer program also enables our summer associates to work in many of the major practice areas of our firm and to get to know the people who make up Hanson Bridgett. Summer associates returning as first-year associates generally have the option to work out of any of our offices as associates.

While every summer associate experience is different, we strive to give summer associates a realistic experience of what it is like to practice law at Hanson Bridgett. Summer associates are assigned work that, if they were not with us, would be assigned to Hanson Bridgett associates. The assignments are real, meaningful, and important. Summer associates also have opportunities to observe or participate in client meetings, court appearances, and other hands-on experiences. Summer associates, like our associates, juggle multiple assignments and responsibilities. We know that the practice of law is demanding, but we strive for a healthy balance between work and personal time. We want our summer associates to experience the joys and pressures of working at Hanson Bridgett so that they can assess whether their professional and personal goals and objectives can be satisfied at our firm. Of course, we anticipate and hope that our summer associates will laugh and have fun with us throughout their summer and beyond.

"Hanson Bridgett pulls off a rare feat with its summer program. In 10 weeks, I feel like I was able to grow from a student of the law into a member of the Northern California legal community. I expected to be challenged by the work I was assigned and attorneys I worked with, but what blew me away about the experience was how Hanson Bridgett believes in its summer associates and entrusts them as ambassadors of the firm right away. To me, the numerous opportunities to enjoy lunch or coffee with a judge, a client, or a senior partner were more valuable than any other experience I have encountered in my developing legal career."

“I had an amazing experience at Hanson Bridgett. I got to work on important issues while making real contributions to the firm. I don’t think I would have been able to get the substantive, specialized experience I wanted almost anywhere else. Not to mention the people were beyond compare! There is no doubt in my mind that Hanson Bridgett is a special place that I want to be a part of.”

“Hanson Bridgett's summer associate program was absolutely amazing. Summer associates are given a very realistic look at what it is like to work at Hanson Bridgett, and everyone -- from associates to the managing partner -- is very transparent and candid about their experience and expectations. The formal process for assignments and evaluations makes the work experience run smoothly, and you are given all the tools you need to succeed, with mentors, a writing coach, summer coordinators, and evaluations on each assignment. There were many opportunities to network and socialize outside of work assignments as well, including a very rewarding pro bono experience. It was a great summer with great people, and I cherished the experience.”

“I loved my summer associate experience at Hanson Bridgett. While gaining invaluable legal experience, I grew both professionally and personally during my time at the firm. The most rewarding part of my experience was working with the talented and dynamic attorneys at Hanson Bridgett."

“Hanson Bridgett puts people first, and I felt right at home from the moment I walked through the door. After spending the summer at Hanson Bridgett, I could not imagine working anywhere else.”

“Working at Hanson Bridgett over the summer was a fabulous introduction to understanding the different practice areas and expectations of first year associates! They really want the summer associates to do well and provided great writing and research resources. Finally, my favorite thing about working at Hanson Bridgett over the summer was the incredibly interesting attorneys all around me. Everyone has an interesting personal story and is excited about what they do!”

“As a first generation law student, I was extremely intimidated at the thought of working at my first law firm. However, I could not have found a better law firm than Hanson Bridgett. Not only were there several social activities to encourage summer associates to build business relationships with partners, associates, and staff but the summer program also exposed me to several assignments that allowed me to solidify the area of law I plan to build my career on. However, what I will take away from this summer is not an assignment or social event I attended. Instead, I will remember the support, mentorship, and genuine friendships that I made while working at Hanson Bridgett. Nothing tells you more about the firm than the people that work there—you can see people enjoy working together. For students considering Hanson Bridgett, expect a community with ambition, openness to change, transparency across all levels, and a true passion for the community.“

“Hanson Bridgett’s Summer Program was a standout experience. The work was substantive and the assigning attorneys relied on us to provide a complete and useful work product. Through mentors and writing coaches, it was clear that Hanson Bridgett and its attorneys wanted us to succeed and that the opportunity would be what we could make of it.”

"Hanson Bridgett is home. The people here are more than co-workers and bosses. They're friends. They cared about us and wanted us to succeed. These amazing world-class attorneys took time out of their busy lives to provide us with the resources and guidance we needed to make the transition from thinking as law students to practicing as lawyers. I can never thank them enough for that.  The firm culture itself is also like nothing I've ever seen before. This is a place where basically everybody knows your name, even though it's one of the largest firms in Northern California! The staff went out of their way to make sure we felt welcomed and comfortable. Instead of competing against each other, the summer associates worked together to make each other better and in the process, made friendships that will last a lifetime. I know I made the right choice to summer at Hanson Bridgett."
