Lori Ferguson and Jenna Scott are Speaking at the 54th CAMSS Educational Forum
Los Angeles, CA
May 14 | 1:00 - 2:00 PM and 2:15 - 3:15 PM
Proctoring is not only an important tool for evaluating practitioner competence, but it is also required by accreditation bodies and regulatory entities. Failure to ensure initial proctoring is completed can result in punitive regulatory action. Additionally, focused proctoring is important for maintaining quality care but may trigger mandatory reporting obligations and hearing rights. Understanding these nuances of proctoring can help protect Medical Staffs and ensure quality of care.
At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:
- Understand the two types of proctoring—initial and focused—as well as some of the roadblocks that arise surrounding proctoring.
- Identify the requirements for proctoring, as set forth by accreditation bodies and regulatory entities, such as The Joint Commission and CMS, and regulatory consequences for failure to complete proctoring.
- Understand common pitfalls that may arise regarding initial proctoring, the consequences for failure to ensure initial proctoring is completed, and strategies to avoid these issues.
- Identify situations in which focused proctoring may trigger mandatory reporting obligations and formal hearing rights.
