Most people think that if they are smart or aware, they can avoid unconscious bias entirely—but this is the wrong approach. Unconscious bias affects everyone, often in ways that are difficult to detect. This session, presented by Hanson Bridgett’s Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer, Jennifer Martinez will introduce the multiple different types of unconscious bias and how they work, will examine how bias impacts workplaces, and will share strategies for confronting and minimizing bias.

California employers often rely on arbitration agreements to avoid costly and protracted litigation, including in defending wage and hour class actions. However, recent state and federal decisions have left employers with many unanswered questions regarding the enforceability of arbitration agreements. Join us for a discussion about the current state of employment arbitration agreements, how they can limit employer liability, and recent developments that will affect their enforceability going forward. We will also cover notable recent decisions affecting the current landscape of wage and hour laws in California, including Naranjo v. Spectrum Security Services, Inc., and Estrada v.
