Pharmacy License Applications: New Requirement for Pharmacy PICs – Effective April 1, 2025
As of April 1, 2025, pharmacy license applications must include an attestation from the proposed Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) confirming completion of the California State Board of Pharmacy’s new Pharmacist-in-Charge Overview and Responsibility Course. (16 C.C.R. § 1709.1(a))

Application Requirements:
- The PIC must complete the course within two years prior to submitting the application.
- An attestation must be submitted, which includes:
- Completion date of the course
- Confirmation of reading BPC §§ 4036.5, 4081, 4113, and 4330
- PIC’s name, license number, and signature under penalty of perjury
Additional Notes:
- This course is not ACPE-accredited and will not appear on the NABP CPE monitor.
- PICs should keep the CE certificate for at least four years.
Recommendation:
While this course is only required for new PICs, all current PICs are encouraged to complete it to stay informed on legal responsibilities and best practices.
